چکیده
Rapid technological change is opening new possibilities for electrification of the transportation sector. This paper offers novel empirical guidance to policymakers considering investments in electric urban buses. We determine environmental benefit using buses rather than diesel or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) transit. For and CNG we calculate air pollution damages by combining emission rates with damage valuations from AP3 integrated assessment model social cost carbon. estimates marginal increase emissions electricity usage. The positive on average across all counties contiguous U.S. when comparing either CNG. operating an bus fleet (rather diesel) about $65 million per year Los Angeles above $10 six other MSAs. Including benefit, net present value (NPV) investment. Relative diesel, NPV two thirds counties. CNG, negative

• Diesel exhaust contains ozone precursors, benzene, arsenic, dioxins, formaldehyde and other toxic substances and is a significant contributor to airborne concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM). Significant health impacts including lung damage and premature death are associated with exposure to fine particulate matter. It can also aggravate conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. Die...
